I was an athlete who lived in hats. Before practice, after games, in between everything a hat was always my go-to. But for me, it was never that simple.

I have curly hair, and no matter what I tried, no hat fit right. Too tight, no room for my curls to breathe, and hat hair the second I took it off. I also wanted to wear my hair differently every day; stretched out, curly, braids, straight, and so I could never find a hat that could keep up with me.

For years, I did what most of us do: I would force hats onto my head, squeeze my hair into them and tell myself it wasn't a big deal. But that small, quiet feeling of knowing your hair wasn't being treated properly? It adds up. I was tired of settling.

So I stopped waiting for someone else to fix it.

I started Tress because I knew I wasn't alone. I'd seen it in the eyes of teammates, friends, women standing at the same rack, trying on the same hats, walking away with the same disappointment. We deserved better.
